Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Blanket - Rounds 1 to 3: With 5.5 mm hook and white. R1: ch 4, 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, *ch 2, 4 dc in same ch. Repeat from * 2 more times, ch 2. Join with sl st and turn. [16 dc] R2 (RS): ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each dc to corner, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner space, dc in each dc to next corner. Repeat. Join with sl st and turn. [32 dc] R3: Repeat R2.
Step 2
Blanket - Body: R4-6: With beige, repeat round 2. R7: With black, repeat round 2. R8-10: With white, repeat round 2. R11-13: With beige, repeat round 2. R14-28: Repeat the color sequence of rounds 7 to 13 two more times alternately, working the corner increases and keeping the fabric square.
Step 3
Blanket - Edging: Border Round: With black, work 1 sc in each dc around, and work 3 sc in each ch-2 corner space. Join with sl st. Final Round: ch 1 (does not count as st), work 1 reverse single crochet (crab stitch) in each sc around the edge for stability and decoration. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Step 4
Lovey (Dou Dou): With 5.5 mm hook, work the same way as the blanket following the color sequences and corner increases up to Round 17. Add a border round in black by working sc in each stitch around with 3 sc in corners. Finish with a round of reverse single crochet (crab stitch). Fasten off.
Step 5
Toy Head: With 4.0 mm hook and beige. R1: 6 sc in MR. R2: 6 inc [12]. R3: (1 sc, inc) x6 [18]. R4-8: Increase to 48 sc. R9-12: 48 sc. R13: 9 sc, 2 dec, 22 sc, 2 dec, 9 sc [44]. R14: 8 sc, dec, (3 sc, dec) x4, 2 sc, 2 dec, 8 sc [37]. R15: 37 sc. R16: 5 sc, dec, (3 sc, dec) x4, 2 sc, 2 dec, 4 sc [30]. R17: 30 sc. R18-25: Stuff, change to white, dec to 6 sc. Close, attach 9 mm eyes and nose.
Step 6
Ears (Make 2): With 4.0 mm hook and beige. R1: 6 sc in MR. R2: 6 inc [12]. R3: (1 sc, inc) x6 [18]. R4-9: 18 sc. R10: (dec, 4 sc) x3 [15]. R11: (dec, 3 sc) x3 [12]. R12: (dec, 2 sc) x3 [9]. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Step 7
Paws (Make 2): With 4.0 mm hook and white. R1: 6 sc in MR. R2: 6 inc [12]. R3: (1 sc, inc) x6 [18]. R4: (2 sc, inc) x6 [24]. R5-6: 24 sc. R7: 6 dec, 12 sc [18]. Stuff paw and change to beige. R8-13: 18 sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Step 8
Assembly: Fold the ears flat at base and sew symmetrically to the head between rounds 9 and 11. Sew the head securely to the center of the lovey (round 1). Position paws on each side of the head and sew them partially to the blanket and the head base. Weave in all loose ends.
