Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Materials and Gauge: We will use anti-allergic baby cotton yarn in colors A (Coral, 2 skeins), B (Pure Pink, 1 skein), and C (Gray/Branch, 1 skein) with a 3.25 mm hook. Work with double strands throughout the project. Gauge: 12 dc x 6 rows = 5x5 cm.

Step 2

Hat - Ribbed Band: With color A and double strand, ch 9. Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch and in each ch [8 sc]. Rows 2-106: ch 1, 1 sc in back loop of each sc. At the end of Row 106, turn work to crochet along the long side edge.

Step 3

Hat - Crown and Decreases: Row 1: work 1 sc in side of each row [106 sc]. Row 2: ch 2, 1 dc in each sc [106 dc]. Rows 3-18: work in dc, decreasing gradually to 24 sts (decrease 6 sts on Row 4, 6, 8, 9, and from 10 to 18). Row 19: sc2tog across [12 sc]. Gather crown and sew back seam.

Step 4

Hat - Bunny Applique: Face: With color B and double strand, ch 25. Work sc, increasing at ends on Rows 2-3 [28 sc], even on Rows 4-17, decrease at ends to Row 32 [10 sc]. Ears (2): With color B, ch 10, work 3 rows alternating sc, hdc, and dc. Embroider eyes, whiskers, and mouth, then sew to hat.

Step 5

Make 2. Band: With color A and double strand, ch 19. Row 1: sc [18 sc]. Rows 2-36: sc in back loop. Turn to long edge. Foot: Row 1: sc along sides [36 sc]. Row 2: dc with increases [42 dc]. Row 3 (join color B): sc, hdc, and dc with increases [48 sts]. Row 4: increases [59 sts]. Rows 5-11: sc in each st.

Step 6

Booties - Sole: Join in the round. Rnd 12: sc in back loop. Rnds 13-18: work sc decreasing at ends and center (sc2tog) in alternate rounds to reach 23 sc on Rnd 17. Rnd 18: sc even. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Step 7

Booties - Seams and Edging: Sew the sole seam along the foot and the back seam of the ribbed band. For the edging, join color B in any free loop of Row 11 and work 1 sc in each free loop around. Join with sl st and fasten off.

Step 8

Ears (make 2 for each bootie): With color B, ch 7 and work 3 rows combining sc, hdc, and dc to form ears. Sew ears to front of booties and embroider eyes, nose, and mouth to match the hat.
