Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
Materials and Sizes: To crochet this baby mouse hood (12-18 months or 2-4 years), we will use thick Bernat Baby Blanket yarn in main color (Beige, 2-3 skeins) and contrast A (Pink, 5 m). Hook 8.0 mm (US L/11) and tapestry needle. Gauge: 7 sc x 8 rows = 10 cm.

Step 2
Hood - Start and Round 1: With main color (Beige) and 8.0 mm hook, ch 34 (38). Join in a ring with a sl st, being careful not to twist. Round 1: ch 2, work 1 hdc in each ch around, join with sl st to first hdc [34 (38) hdc].

Step 3
Hood - Round 2: Round 2: ch 1, work 1 sc in each of the next 4 hdc, 1 hdc in next 4 hdc, 1 dc in next 18 (22) hdc, 1 hdc in next 4 hdc, and 1 sc in last 4 hdc. Join with sl st to first sc.

Step 4
Hood - Round 3: Round 3: ch 1, work 1 sc in each of the first 4 sc, 1 hdc in next 4 hdc, 1 dc in next 18 (22) dc, 1 hdc in next 4 hdc, and 1 sc in last 4 sc. Join with sl st to first sc.

Step 5
Hood - Body: Repeat Round 3 continuously to grow the hood until the work measures 28 (33) cm from the start, measured along the longest (dc) side. Fasten off, leaving a tail, and secure.

Step 6
Ears - Outer and Inner: Outer Ear (make 2): With Beige, ch 3, work 8 hdc in 3rd ch, sl st to first hdc and fasten off. Inner Ear (make 2): With Pink, ch 3, work 8 hdc in 3rd ch, sl st to first hdc and fasten off.

Step 7
Ears - Assembly: Place one outer ear and one inner ear wrong sides together. With the pink side facing you, join Beige in any stitch. Working through both layers, work sc evenly around the outer edge. Join with sl st and fasten off.

Step 8
Assembly and Seams: Sew the 2 completed ears symmetrically on both sides of the top of the hood (in the dc area) using tapestry needle and main color tail. Fold the top back edge of the hood in half and sew closed. Weave in ends.
