Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Materials and Gauge: To crochet this baby rainbow boho romper/playsuit, we will use baby cotton yarn in Color A (Ecru, 1-2 skeins), Color B (Purple, 1 skein), Color C (Magenta, 1 skein), and Color D (Jade, 1 skein). Hooks size 3.75 mm and 4.0 mm, tapestry needle, and 2 buttons (11 mm). Gauge: 17 sc + 20 rows = 10 cm with 4.0 mm hook.

Step 2

Bib - Start and Intarsia: With 3.75 mm hook and color A, ch 24 (26, 30, 32). Row 1 (RS): sc in 2nd ch and in each ch [23 (25, 29, 31) sc]. Work 1 (5, 7, 11) rows of sc even. In Row 1 of the rainbow pattern, introduce B, C, and D colors using intarsia technique (2 sc B, 1 A, 2 C, 1 A, 2 D, 3 A, 2 D, 1 A, 2 C, 1 A, 2 B, and remaining A).

Step 3

Bib - Rainbow and Waist: Follow the intarsia chart/instructions for 20 rows in sc. When the rainbow is complete, cut B, C, and D. Work 1 (2, 4, 3) rows of sc with color A only and fasten off. Border: With 4.0 mm hook and color A, join in bottom corner and work one round of sc evenly around side and top edges of the bib.

Step 4

Waistband - Body in the Round: Rnd 1 (RS): ch 1 loosely, work sc over the bib edge and base chain [26 (28, 32, 34) sc], ch 38 (44, 46, 50) and join in the round with a sl st. Rnd 2: ch 2 (counts as dc), work dc around [64 (72, 78, 84) dc]. Work 1 (1, 2, 2) rounds alternating FPdc and BPdc in ribbed stitch.

Step 5

Body and Growth: Rnd 1: work 1 sc in each stitch, increasing evenly [76 (84, 90, 96) sc]. Rnds 2-13 (14, 15, 15): work continuous rounds of sc even around the entire garment.

Step 6

Front Lower Panel: For sizes 12-18 (24) months, work on first 38 sc. Row 1 (RS): skip 2 sts, sc2tog, work 36 sc, sc2tog, turn [38 sc]. Rows 2-15: decrease 1 sc at each end (sc2tog) on each row [10 sc]. Rows 16-17: sc even. Row 18 (buttonholes): work sc and 2 ch-1 spaces. Row 19: sc in each sc and ch-1 space [10 sc]. Fasten off.

Step 7

Back Lower Panel: With RS facing, skip next 8 (12, 3, 6) unworked sts after the front panel, join color A. Row 1: sc in next 32 (32, 44, 44) sts. Decrease at each end (sc2tog) on alternate rows to reach 8 (8, 10, 10) sc. Work 4 rows of sc even and fasten off. Sew the 2 buttons on the 3rd row from the end.

Step 8

Straps and Edging: Straps (2): With color B and 3.75 mm hook, join in top corner of bib, ch 37 (44, 53, 60), and join with sl st to back waistband. Work rows of sc alternating colors B, C, and D for strength. Crochet 3 rows of sc in colors D, C, and B around the leg openings. Weave in ends.
