Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
Materials and Measurements: Sport or DK weight cotton yarn (e.g., 50g cherry color length). 3.0 mm hook. Final size approx: 20 cm long (weight ~6g).

Step 2
Abbreviations: ch = chain. sl st = slip stitch. sc = single crochet. dc = double crochet. tr = treble crochet. picot = ch 3, sl st in first ch.

Step 3
Gauge and Start: Tension guide: 22 dc x 11 rows = 10 cm with 3mm hook. The bookmark is worked in one continuous piece. Start leaving a short tail.

Step 4
First Heart (Base): Make a Magic Ring. Into the ring work: ch 3, 3 tr, 3 dc, ch 1, 1 tr (heart point), ch 1, 3 dc, 3 tr, ch 3. Close with 1 sl st in the center of the ring. Pull the initial tail to close the circle.

Step 5
Center Cord: Without cutting the yarn, work a chain string (approx. 40 to 50 ch, or until reaching about 15 cm long) starting from the center of the first heart.

Step 6
Second Heart: At the end of the chain, repeat the First Heart steps (ch 3, 3 tr, 3 dc, ch 1, 1 tr, ch 1, 3 dc, 3 tr, ch 3, 1 sl st) closing into the last chain worked.

Step 7
Finishing and Blocking: Cut, secure and weave in ends. Block by dampening and drying flat.
