Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
BODY BASE: With the 3.0 mm hook, start with a 6 sc magic ring. Increase progressively following the oval pattern until reaching 48 stitches in round 10. Crochet 5 straight rounds to add volume.

Step 2
THE TAIL: Before closing the body, crochet the tail directly: a sequence of 3 feathers made with chains (4 and 5 stitches) and single crochet, joining each with a slip stitch (sl st) to the same body stitch.

Step 3
BODY DIVISION: Fold the piece in half. Crochet 10 sc through both layers to close the 'back'. The remaining stitches will stay open in a circle to start building the neck and head.

Step 4
NECK AND HEAD: Stuff the body firmly. Continue crocheting in the round over the 22 free stitches. Make subtle decreases in rounds 21 and 22 to narrow the neck before widening the head.

Step 5
HEAD CLOSURE: Insert safety eyes between rounds 27 and 28. Finish stuffing and close the top with (dec) × 6. Fasten off and hide the yarn inside the piece.

Step 6
SMALL DETAILS: Use the 1.75 mm hook for the beak (6 sc ring), the comb (scalloped over 9 chains), and the cylindrical feet. Using a small hook will make the details more defined.

Step 7
WINGS: With the 2.5 mm hook, crochet an oval base over 7 chains. In the second round, create three peaks (hdc, dc, hdc in the same stitch) to simulate wing feathers. Make two identical pieces.

Step 8
FINAL ASSEMBLY: Sew the beak and comb centered. Attach the wings to the sides and the feet to the base. Final touch: embroider the eye outlines with white thread to give it a more awake expression.
