Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
WE START WITH THE BEAK: Make the beak with orange yarn: magic ring with 6 sc, increase to 12 sc in round 2, 2 straight rounds of 12 sc, and increase to 18 sc in round 5.

Step 2
Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew onto the body.

Step 3
WE START WITH THE BODY: Make the body with yellow yarn: MR with 6 sc, increase to 12 sc, then to 18, 24, 30, 36, and 42 sc following the increase pattern.

Step 4
Rounds 8-15: work 42 sc straight. Rounds 16-20: gradually decrease from 42 to 18 sc.

Step 5
Start the head: increase from 18 to 24, 30, 36, and 42 sc in rounds 21-24. Rounds 25-32: work 42 sc straight.

Step 6
Rounds 33-38: gradually decrease from 42 to 6 sc to close the head. Stuff firmly as you go.

Step 7
Fasten off and sew the final part securely closed.

Step 8
WE BEGIN WITH THE WINGS: Make a wing: MR with 6 sc, increase to 12 sc, then 18 and 24 sc in the first 4 rounds.

Step 9
Round 5: 24 sc, Round 6: decrease to 18 sc. Rounds 7-8: 18 sc straight, Round 9: decrease to 12 sc, Round 10: 12 sc straight.

Step 10
Pinch the wing flat, close with 5 sc, fasten off, and leave a long tail to sew onto the body.

Step 11
WE BEGIN WITH THE TOP SHELL: Make the top eggshell in white: MR 6 sc, increase to 12, 18, and 24 sc following the increase pattern.

Step 12
Round 5: *DC in the first 3 sts, sl st in the next*, repeat around (24). Fasten off leaving a tail to sew.

Step 13
WE BEGIN WITH THE BOTTOM SHELL: Bottom eggshell in white: MR 6 sc, increase to 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, and 42 sc following the pattern.

Step 14
Rounds 8-13: 42 sc straight. Round 14: partial SC decrease (40 sc). Round 15: *DC in 3 sts, sl st in next*, repeat (40). Fasten off and weave in ends.
