Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

START (R1-R5): With Green yarn, MR. R1-R2: 6 sc. R3: [1 sc, 1 inc] x3 (9). R4: [1 inc, 2 sc] x3 (12). R5: [1 sc, 1 pop, 1 sc] x4 (12). The 'pop' stitches create the branch texture.

Step 2

GROWTH (R6-R11): Continue increasing. R6-R7: Increase to 18 sts. R8: [1 sc, 1 pop, 1 sc] x6 (18). R9-R10: Increase to 24 sts. R11: [1 sc, 1 pop, 1 sc] x8 (24).

Step 3

LOWER BODY (R12-R17): R12-R13: Increase to 30 sts. R14: Mix pops and sc as per pattern (30). R15-R16: Increase to 36 sts. R17: [1 sc, 1 pop, 1 sc] x12 (36).

Step 4

EYES AND MOUTH: Place 10 mm eyes. With black yarn, embroider the mouth on R15 (centered). Create a 2-stitch horizontal line and pull the center down to form a 'V'. Knot inside.

Step 5

TREE CLOSURE (R18-R20): Begin stuffing. R18: [1 dec, 4 sc] x6 (30). R19: [3 sc, 1 dec] x6 (24). R20: [1 dec, 2 sc] x6 (18). Cut green yarn.

Step 6

TRUNK (R21-R22): Join Brown yarn. R21: 1 sc in each front loop (FLO) around (18). R22: 1 sc in each stitch (18).

Step 7

TRUNK BASE (R23-R24): R23: In back loop (BLO), [1 sc, 1 dec] x6 (12). R24: 6 dec (6). Finish stuffing firmly.

Step 8

FINAL CLOSURE: Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Use the yarn needle to weave through the front loops of the final 6 stitches and pull tight to close the hole. Your little tree is ready!
