Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
Start with green yarn and make a chain of 15 stitches.

Step 2
Round 1: Crochet 13 sc, increase with 3 sc in 1 stitch twice (32). This pattern will repeat often.

Step 3
Rounds 2 and 3: Crochet the 32 stitches.

Step 4
Round 4: Change to white yarn (closing the first stitch) and crochet the 32 stitches.

Step 5
Round 5: Change to red yarn (closing the first stitch) and crochet the 32 stitches.

Step 6
Round 6: Crochet 14 sc, 1 decrease twice (30 stitches).

Step 7
Round 7: 13 sc, 1 decrease twice (28 stitches). Round 8: 12 sc, 1 decrease twice (26 stitches). Round 9: 11 sc, 1 decrease twice (24 stitches).

Step 8
Round 10: 10 sc, 1 decrease twice (22 stitches). Round 11: 9 sc, 1 decrease twice (20 stitches). Round 12: 8 sc, 1 decrease twice (18 stitches).

Step 9
Round 13: 7 sc, 1 decrease twice (16 stitches). Round 14: 6 sc, 1 decrease twice (14 stitches). Round 15: 5 sc, 1 decrease twice (12 stitches) and stuff with cotton.

Step 10
Round 16: 4 sc, 1 decrease twice (10 stitches). Round 17: 3 sc, 1 decrease twice (8 stitches) and leave the top hole open.

Step 11
For the eye, make a magic ring of 6 stitches and close with a slip stitch.

Step 12
With black yarn and a tapestry needle, embroider a winking eye and attach it to the mini watermelon. Measure carefully for positioning.

Step 13
For the white of the eye: insert a needle threaded with white yarn through the inside of the watermelon and bring it out at the center of the black eye.

Step 14
Sew a small circle of 3 stitches and close it. With the watermelon’s red yarn on the needle, close the top and cut any excess.
