Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Step 1

BODY (BASE): With the 6 mm hook and double strand of Color A, start with 12 chains. Crochet around the base chain to create a 24 sc oval. In rounds 2 to 4, increase at the ends until reaching 42 sc.

Step 2

Step 2

BODY (HEIGHT): Continue crocheting in a spiral (without closing rounds) from round 5 to 20. By using double strands, the bag will have enough structure to stand on its own. Fasten off at the end.

Step 3

Step 3

SIDE WINGS: Switch to the 4 mm hook and single strand. Crochet two semi-circular pieces increasing stitches in each row. The last row is made with 3-hdc groups to create a wavy edge that simulates feathers.

Step 4

Step 4

THE EYES: Crochet two 5-round base circles with Color A. In round 6, join Color B and alternate slip stitches with 3 sc in the same stitch to create the scalloped eye frame.

Step 5

Step 5

LOOK DETAILS: Sew a 12 mm button in the center. Then, crochet a chain strip with Color D and small hdc groups (the 'white' of the eye) and sew it in a circle around the button to bring the expression to life.

Step 6

Step 6

3D BEAK: With Color C, crochet a small spiral cone. Stuff it with a very small amount of fiberfill so it maintains its shape but isn't heavy, and sew it centered just below the eyes.

Step 7

Step 7

HEART AND HANDLE: Crochet the decorative heart following the dc and hdc diagram to give it the V shape at the base. The handle is worked with 66 chains and two rows of sc for extra strength.

Step 8

Step 8

FINAL ASSEMBLY: Sew the wings to the sides, the eyes and beak to the front, and the heart at the bottom. Finally, join the handle ends to the inside of the bag with reinforced stitches.
