Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Flap - Rows 1 to 4 (Hdc Increases): With Color A (Raspberry) and a 5 mm hook, make a magic ring. Row 1 (RS): Ch 1 (does not count as st), work 4 half double crochet (hdc) into the ring, turn [4 hdc]. Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, 2 hdc in each st across, changing to B (Orange) on the last loop of the last st, turn [8 hdc]. Row 3: Ch 1, (2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc) repeat across, change to C (Mustard), turn [12 hdc]. Row 4: Ch 1, (2 hdc, 2 hdc) rep, change to A, turn [16 hdc].
Step 2
Flap - Rows 5 to 10: Continue in hdc, alternating color sequence (A, B, C) each row and increasing 4 sts per row: Row 5: (2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts) repeat, turn [20 hdc]. Row 6: (2 hdc, 4 hdc) rep, turn [24 hdc]. Row 7: (2 hdc, 5 hdc) rep, turn [28 hdc]. Row 8: (2 hdc, 6 hdc) rep, turn [32 hdc]. Row 9: (2 hdc, 7 hdc) rep, turn [36 hdc]. Row 10: (2 hdc, 8 hdc) rep, turn [40 hdc].
Step 3
Flap - Rows 11 to 15 (Ribbed Edge): Continue increasing 4 sts per row until Row 14: Row 11: [44 hdc]. Row 12: [48 hdc]. Row 13: [52 hdc]. Row 14: [56 hdc]. Row 15: Ch 1, work 1 back loop only half double crochet (bhdc) in each of the 56 sts from previous row, do not cut color A, turn.
Step 4
Bag Body: Rotate work 90 degrees. Row 1 (RS): Working along the flat edge of the semicircular flap, work 38 hdc evenly distributed. Change to Color B on the last loop, turn. Row 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in each st across, turn. Repeat Row 2 keeping the color sequence (A, B, C) every row until the body measures 30 cm long. Last Row: Ch 1, 1 sl st in each st. Fasten off.
Step 5
Left Strap - Rows 1 to 15 (Decreases): With RS facing you, join Color A to the side of the flap. Row 1: Work 23 hdc evenly across the first 15 cm of the side, turn. Row 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc, 1 hdc2tog, 1 hdc in each st to end, turn [22 hdc]. Row 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in each st to last 3 sts, 1 hdc2tog, 1 hdc, turn [21 hdc]. Repeat rows 2 and 3 alternately until Row 15 [9 hdc].
Step 6
Left Strap - Length and Point: Continue working in even hdc (no inc/dec, 9 hdc) until the strap measures 76 cm. Point Shaping: Row 1: Ch 1, hdc2tog, 5 hdc, hdc2tog, turn [7 hdc]. Row 2: Ch 1, hdc3tog, 1 hdc, hdc3tog, turn [3 hdc]. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Step 7
Right Strap: With RS facing you, join Color A at the midpoint of the opposite side. Row 1: Work 23 hdc evenly to the flap connection, turn. Row 2: Ch 1, hdc in each st to last 3, hdc2tog, 1 hdc, turn [22 hdc]. Row 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc, hdc2tog, hdc to end, turn [21 hdc]. Repeat rows 2 and 3 alternately until 9 hdc remain. Work even until strap measures 76 cm, then shape point as left strap.
Step 8
Finishing and Assembly: Fold the lower half of the bag body up to the start of the flap. Sew the sides in place, passing over the straps to secure them. Sew one part of the magnetic snap inside the flap and the other half on the bag body. Weave in all loose ends. Tie strap ends to your desired size to wear. Your bag is ready!
