Step by Step Instructions

Abbreviations: MR = magic ring, sc = single crochet, inc = increase, dec = decrease, ch = chain, sl st = slip stitch.

Materials: Chunky yarn in desired color, 4.25 mm hook, zipper, a bit of stuffing, tapestry needle, and stitch markers. (Optional: fabric for lining).

Front and back panels (make 2): Start with a magic ring of 6 sc. Crochet in a spiral making progressive increases until Round 16 (96 sc). Fasten off and secure.

Center panel and zipper: Make 96 sc as base. Row 4: 33 sc, ch 30 (skip 30 sts for zipper), 33 sc. Row 5: 33 sc, 1 sc in each ch, 33 sc. Fasten off leaving a long tail.

Snout and Eyes: Eyes (make 2): MR of 6 sc, then (1 inc, 1 sc) x3 = 9. Snout: ch 6, crochet around forming an oval with inc at the ends until R6 (42 sc). R7-R8 without inc.

Ears (make 2): MR of 6 sc. Increase progressively until R7 (42 sc). R8-R9: 42 sc. R10: (5 sc, 1 dec) x6 = 36 sc. R11: 36 sc. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Strap: Crochet a foundation of sc to the desired length and make 2 or 3 rows of sc. Leave long tails at the ends to attach it to the bag.

Final assembly: Sew the back panel to the center panel. Attach eyes and snout (with stuffing) to the front panel and join it to the center. Sew the strap, the ears on top, and add the lining if desired.
