Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

ABBREVIATIONS and NOTES: sc (single crochet), dc (double crochet), sl st (slip stitch), ch (chain), MR (magic ring), inc (increase), dec (decrease). Circular rounds are joined with sl st; each round starts with ch 1.

Step 2

CIRCULAR BASE (2 pcs): Purse flaps. Start with beige or base color. R 1-4: 40 hdc with progressive inc. R 5: Change to main color (e.g., Red) and work 50 hdc, (3 hdc, 1 inc)*10. Make two circles (front and back).

Step 3

CONNECTING APPLIQUE (Side): Side rectangle (main color). R 1: ch 7, 6 sc. R 2-R 38: ch 1, turn, 6 sc. Join it to the 1st circular piece with 38 sc, combining edges. Repeat with the 2nd piece. Leave 12 hdc free on each circle for the flap.

Step 4

FLAP (Body): Worked over the 12 free sts of the back applique. R 1-7: ch 1, turn, 12 sc. FLAP (Tip): R 8-10: Taper the tip progressively: R 8: 1 dec, 8 hdc, 1 dec [10]. R 9: 1 dec, 6 hdc, 1 dec [8]. R 10: 1 dec, 4 hdc, 1 dec [6].

Step 5

FINAL EDGE: Edge: 10 sc (side 1) + 6 sc (tip) + 10 sc (final side) [26]. Fasten off and weave in ends. From here, choose the DECORATION appliqués to finish your fruit (Apple, Tomato, or Pumpkin).

Step 6

Apple/Stem APPLIQUÉ: Apple Leaf (Green): ch 6, from 2nd ch: sc, hdc, dc, hdc, 3 sc (in last ch), on the other side: hdc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st. Stem (Brown): ch 6, from 2nd ch: sl st, 4 sc. Sew both to the center of the flap.

Step 7

Tomato/Leaves APPLIQUÉ: Tomato Leaf (Green): Magic ring, repeat 5 times: [ch 4, from 2nd ch: sl st, sc, hdc, sl st (into ring)]. Serrated tomato crown. Sew to the center of the flap.

Step 8

Pumpkin/Curls APPLIQUÉ: Leaves (Green). Work two curls directly on Rnd 4: 1st Curl: ch 13, (2 sc, 1 inc)*4, sl st in 1st central st. 2nd Curl: ch 7, (2 sc, 1 inc)*2, sl st in 2nd central st. Twist to form the curls.

Step 9

FINAL ASSEMBLY: Sew the chosen fruit appliqué (Apple, Tomato, or Pumpkin) to the flap. Optional: Sew snap buttons or a magnetic clasp to secure the purse.
