Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Motif - Round 1: Ch 4, join with sl st to form a ring. R1: ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in ring, ch 3, (3 dc in ring, ch 3) x 3. Join with sl st in 3rd initial ch to close the round. [4 groups of 3 dc]
Step 2
Motif - Round 2: Sl st to the next ch-3 space. R2: ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same space, and work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in each remaining ch-3 space around. Join with sl st in 3rd initial ch.
Step 3
Motif - Round 3: Sl st to the next ch-3 space. R3: ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same space, dc in next 6 dc, *(3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-3 space, dc in next 6 dc. Repeat from * 2 times. Join with sl st.
Step 4
Motif - Round 4: Sl st to the next ch-3 space. R4: ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same space, dc in next 12 dc, *(3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next space, dc in next 12 dc. Repeat from * 2 times. Join with sl st, fasten off leaving a long tail.
Step 5
Bag - Motif Assembly: Make 2 motifs in total following the instructions above. Place one motif on top of the other, aligning the edges. Using a tapestry needle and a long tail, sew the two side edges and the bottom. Leave the top opening open.
Step 6
Braided Strap: Cut 9 strands of yarn 40 cm (16") long and 2 strands 15 cm (6") long. Fold the 9 strands in half through the keyring. Tie a short strand just below the ring to secure. Divide into 3 groups of 6 and braid. Tie the other short strand at the end.
Step 7
Attaching the Strap: Take the braided strap with the 25 mm keyring and securely attach the metal ring to one of the upper corners of the bag opening. Weave in all loose ends.
Step 8
Decorative Tassels (Make 2): Cut several strands of different colors 15 cm (6") long. Tie the bunch in the middle with a strand. Fold in half and tie another strand around to form the tassel head. Trim the fringe evenly and attach to the bag.
