Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
BODY PANELS: Crochet two identical rectangles. Start with 17 chains and work 13 rows of 16 single crochet (sc) each. These panels will form the front and back of your pouch.

CONNECTION PANEL: Crochet a long, narrow strip (5 sc wide by 42 rows). This panel will act as the gusset or side of the pouch, giving it depth to hold items.
Step 3
BASE ASSEMBLY: Sew the connection panel between the two main panels forming a 'U'. When finished, turn the piece inside out so the seams stay inside and the finish is cleaner.
Step 4
THE FLAP: On one of the upper edges, crochet 11 rows of single crochet. In the last two rows (V12 and V13), decrease at the ends to round the flap and give it its characteristic shape.
Step 5
EDGING: For a professional finish, crochet a round of single crochet around the three free sides of the flap. This will soften the corners and prepare the space for face details.
Step 6
CHARACTER DETAILS: If you choose the bear, crochet a small circle (R1: 6 sc, R2: 12 sc) for the muzzle. If it's the cat, crochet white circles for the pupils and pointy ears directly onto the flap.

ADDITIONAL EARS: For Miffy, crochet long ears (hdc and dc). For the bear, use a magic ring with half double crochets. Sew the ears firmly onto row 12 of the flap so they stay upright.
Step 8
FINAL ASSEMBLY AND KAWAII TOUCHES: Glue the oval eyes and felt nose. The final secret is to apply a bit of real pink blush to the cheeks with a brush to give it that cute, blushing look.
