Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Bag Base - Rounds 1 and 2: With Yarn A (Linen) and a 5.0 mm hook, chain 33. Round 1: Work 1 sc in the second ch from hook and in each chain to the last, work 3 sc in the last chain (mark center st), work along the opposite side of the chain, work 2 sc in the last ch (mark last st). Join with sl st. [66 sc] Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each st to first marker, 3 sc in marked st (mark center st), sc to second marker, 3 sc in marked st, join with sl st. [70 sc]
Step 2
Bag Base - Rounds 3 to 9 (Increases): Round 3: Ch 1, sc in each st to first marker, 3 sc in marked st (mark center st), sc to second marker, 3 sc in marked st (mark center st), sc in remaining sts, join with sl st. [74 sc]. Rounds 4 to 9: Repeat Round 3, increasing 4 stitches every round. At the end of Round 9, you will have 98 sc in total.
Step 3
Base - Rounds 10 to 12 (Straight Edge): Rounds 10 to 12: Ch 1, work 1 sc in each of the 98 sts around the round. Close with 1 sl st in the first sc at the end of each round (3 straight rounds worked without increases to shape the bottom of the bag). [98 sc]
Step 4
Wave Stitch Body - Rounds 13 and 14 (Azure Waves): Round 13: Change to Color B (Azure). Ch 1, *2 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 3 tr (triple/treble crochet), 2 dc, 2 hdc, 3 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 3 tr, 2 dc, 2 hdc, repeat from * around, ending with 1 sc, close with sl st. [98 sts]. Round 14: Change to Color A (Linen). Ch 1, 1 sc in each stitch around, close with sl st. [98 sc]
Step 5
Wave Stitch Body - Rounds 15 and 16 (Mint Waves): Round 15: Change to Color C (Mint). Ch 3, *2 tr, 2 dc, 2 hdc, 3 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 3 tr, 2 dc, 2 hdc, 3 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, repeat from * around, ending with 1 tr, close with sl st. [98 sts]. Round 16: Change to Color A (Linen). Ch 1, 1 sc in each stitch around, close with sl st. [98 sc]
Step 6
Body - Rounds 17 to 38 (Repetitions): Rounds 17 to 38: Repeat Rounds 13 to 16, maintaining the wave color sequence (2 rounds per color, alternating Color A for the sc rows). Carry the yarn loosely on the inside of the bag without cutting it at each change.
Step 7
Body - Rounds 39 to 41 (Upper Edge): Round 39: With Color A (cut other colors). Ch 2, *4 hdc, 7 sc, 7 hdc, repeat from * around, ending with 3 hdc. Close with sl st. [98 sts]. Rounds 40 and 41: Ch 1, work 1 sc in each st around, close with sl st. [98 sc]
Step 8
Handles and Finishing (Rounds 42 to 44): Round 42: Ch 1, 17 sc, ch 50 (for handle), skip 19 sts, 30 sc, ch 50 (second handle), skip 19 sts, 13 sc. Close with sl st [60 sc + 100 ch]. Rounds 43 and 44: Ch 1, 1 sc in each sc and in each of the handle chain stitches around. Close with sl st, fasten off and weave in ends.
