Step by Step Instructions

Bag Body - Base and Yarn A (Rows 1 to 5): With Yarn A (Cream) and a 5.0 mm hook, chain 110 + 2 chain to turn. Row 1: Work 1 hdc (half double crochet) in the second ch from hook and in each remaining chain, turn [110 hdc]. Rows 2 to 5: Ch 2 (does not count as st), work 1 hdc in each st across, turn.

Body - First Color Sequence (Rows 6 to 13): Change colors and work 2 rows of hdc for each color (110 hdc per row): Rows 6 and 7 with Yarn B (Pink); Rows 8 and 9 with Yarn C (Green); Rows 10 and 11 with Yarn D (Orchid); and Rows 12 and 13 with Yarn E (Mustard). Turn at the end of each row.

Body - Central Section (Rows 14 to 28): Change back to Yarn A (Cream) to form the solid cream center of the bag. Work Rows 14 to 28: Ch 2, work 1 hdc in each of the 110 sts, turn at the end of each row (15 rows total in cream without increases).

Body - Second Color Sequence (Rows 29 to 36): Repeat the color sequence in reverse order (2 rows of hdc per color): Rows 29 and 30 with Yarn E (Mustard); Rows 31 and 32 with Yarn D (Orchid); Rows 33 and 34 with Yarn C (Green); and Rows 35 and 36 with Yarn B (Pink). Turn at the end of each row.

Body - Final Edge and Joining (Rows 37 to 41): Change back to Yarn A (Cream). Rows 37 to 41: Work 1 hdc in each st across, turn. After Row 41, do not cut the yarn. Fold the piece in half, aligning the side edges. Join the sides from the base upwards by working 1 sc through both layers in each stitch. Fasten off. Repeat for the other side.

Handles - Final Row and Assembly: Final Row: Work 1 dc in third ch from hook, 49 dc, 30 sc, 50 dc. Fasten off. Use stitch markers to position the handles inside the bag mouth (leaving 2 cm inside and aligning color stripes). Sew handles securely using a tapestry needle. Fasten off and weave in all loose ends.
