Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
Crochet the Rind - Rows 1-3: We start by making the base using the dark green yarn. Chain 16. Row 1: Skip the first chain, work 14 sc, and work 4 sc in the last chain for the curve. Working along the opposite side of base chains, work 13 sc and 3 sc in the last chain. Join with 1 sl st (34 sc). Rows 2 and 3: Work 34 sc continuously around the base to raise the bottom.

Step 2
Crochet the Rind - Rows 4-5: Change to light green yarn. Work Rows 4 and 5 by working 34 sc around, maintaining a firm and even tension to mimic the watermelon design details.

Step 3
Case Body and Aperture - Rows 6-7: Change to red yarn. Work Rows 6 and 7 by working 34 sc around to start shaping the red pulp section.

Step 4
Secret Drawstring Eyelet - Rows 8-9: In Row 8, work the first 18 sc, chain 14, skip 14 base stitches, and finish with 2 sc to create the gap for the headphone wire. Row 9: Work 18 sc, work 14 sc directly wrapping around the ch-14 space from the previous row, and finish with 2 sc (maintaining 34 sc around).

Step 5
Body Height - Rows 10-16: Work Rows 10 to 16 by working 34 sc around in each round, giving the watermelon body its ideal height before closing.

Step 6
Top Closing and Strap: Row 17: Flatten the top edge of the case, aligning both sides, and work 17 sl st across to seal the pouch. Without cutting the yarn, chain 10 to form the hanging loop. Fasten off invisibly, slide the metal clasp onto the chain loop, and secure it with 1 sl st.

Step 7
Eyelet Reinforcement and Seeds: To prevent the headphone wire opening from stretching, join green yarn to the edges of rows 7 and 8 and work a complete round of sl st around the eyelet. Braid small straight stitches with black yarn and a tapestry needle on the red section to form the seeds.
