Step 1
START: Create a magic ring. Motifs use groups of 3 dc (double crochet) separated by chains, forming the classic granny stitch structure according to the diagram.

R1-2 YELLOW: Make 4 groups of 3 dc in R1. In R2, create corners with (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in each space. Work this start on all 18 full, 10 half, and 4 quarter squares.

R3-4 REDDISH: Switch to reddish. Work 3-dc groups in side spaces and (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corners. Advance all motifs at once to vary yarn tones.

R5-6 YELLOW: Return to yellow. Sides grow with 3-dc groups and ch 1. In half and quarter squares, work in back-and-forth rows following the diagram's slope.

R7-8 REDDISH: With reddish, full square sides now have 5 groups of 3 dc. Keep double crochets at the ends of half squares so edges stay straight.

R9 YELLOW: Final round. Work the last 3-dc group sequence in yellow. Each full square should measure 12″. Finish with a slip stitch and cut yarn.

HALF SQUARE DETAIL: Per 'HALF SQUARE' diagram, work in a fan shape from center. Use dc at borders to keep the base flat and facilitate joining.

QUARTER SQUARE DETAIL: Follow 'QUARTER SQUARE' for corners. A triangle with one 90-degree angle. Respect central increases to avoid curling.

BLOCKING: Dampen and pin all 32 pieces on a flat surface. It is vital that all squares measure exactly the same so the blanket keeps its geometric shape.
Step 10
JOINING: Arrange motifs: full in center, halves at borders, quarters at corners. Join via invisible seam or single crochet to reach final 50″ x 67″.
Step 11
FINISH: Use a yarn needle to hide all lilac and reddish yarn tails on the back. Work a single crochet border around the entire blanket if extra firmness is desired.
