Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Replace the first single crochet of the round with 1 chain stitch. End the round with 1 slip stitch into the first chain stitch.

Step 2

Replace the first double crochet of the round with 3 chain stitches. End the round with 1 slip stitch into the 3rd chain stitch.

Step 3

ROUND 1: Work 8 single crochets around the ring.

Step 4

ROUND 2: *1 double crochet in the first single crochet, 2 double crochets in the next single crochet*, repeat to the end = 12 double crochets.

Step 5

ROUND 3: *1 single crochet in each of the next 2 double crochets, 2 single crochets in the next double crochet*, repeat to the end = 16 single crochets.

Step 6

ROUND 4: *1 double crochet in each of the first 3 single crochets, 2 double crochets in the next single crochet*, repeat to the end = 20 double crochets.

Step 7

ROUND 5: Work 1 single crochet in each double crochet = 20 single crochets.

Step 8

ROUND 6: *Chain 4, skip 3 single crochets, slip stitch in the next single crochet*, repeat to the end = 5 loops.

Step 9

ROUND 7: Work 4 double crochets in the first loop, then 5 double crochets in each following loop = 24 double crochets.

Step 10

ROUND 8: Work 1 single crochet in each double crochet = 24 single crochets.

Step 11

Continue following the same pattern of increases and loops up to round 29, as in the original instructions.

Step 12

BASE: Work 4 chains with green yarn and form a ring with 1 slip stitch. Continue for 7 rounds following the pattern, ending with 72 single crochets.

Step 13

SNOW: Work on the last round of single crochets before the loops (rounds 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25) using off-white yarn.

Step 14

For each snow round: *Skip 1 single crochet, make 3 double crochets, 3 chains, 3 double crochets in the next single crochet, skip 1, slip stitch*, repeat to the end.

Step 15

Stuff the tree with cotton and join the base with single crochets through both layers. Cut and fasten the yarn.

Step 16

SMALL TREE: Crochet the same as the large one but in forest green. Stop after round 24 and follow the same snow pattern.
