Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Notes: Keep in mind that the pieces will be worked in parts and then assembled.
Step 2
Decrease (sc2tog): Insert hook in the next stitch and pull up a loop. Repeat once more in the next stitch, then yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook - 1 stitch decreased.
Step 3
Surface crochet: Insert hook in desired stitch, place a loop of yarn on hook; pull loop to top of piece; insert hook in next desired stitch; yarn over and pull a loop through piece and loop on hook; repeat until surface crochet is complete.
Step 4
For the base, we will use brown. Start with a magic ring.
Step 5
Round 1: Work 2 sc in the ring, ch 2 and repeat 4 times. Join with sl st in first sc - you will have 8 sc and 4 ch-2 spaces in this round. Note: Work the first stitch of each round in the same stitch where you made the sl st.
Step 6
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in next 2 stitches, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 space; repeat around; join with sl st in first sc -- 16 sc and 4 ch-2 spaces.
Step 7
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in next 3 stitches, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 space; repeat 2 more times, sc in last stitch; join with sl st in first sc -- 24 sc and 4 ch-2 spaces.
Step 8
Rounds 4-6: Ch 1, sc in each stitch to next ch-2 space, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 space; repeat 3 more times, sc in each stitch to end; join with sl st in first sc -- 48 sc and 4 ch-2 spaces in Round 6.
Step 9
Round 7: Working in back loops only, sc in each stitch around, skipping all ch-2 spaces; join with sl st in first sc -- 48 sc.
Step 10
Sides. Rounds 8-15: Working in both loops, sc in each stitch around; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
Step 11
Front Upper. Row 1 (RS): From RS, take a brown loop in the 8th stitch of the last round, ch 1, sc in same stitch and next 11 stitches; leave remaining stitches unworked -- 12 sc.
Step 12
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, decrease, sc in next 8 stitches, decrease -- 10 sc.
Step 13
Rows 3-5: Ch 1, turn, decrease, sc in each stitch to last 2 stitches, decrease -- 4 sc in Row 5.
Step 14
Row 6: Ch 1, turn, decrease 2 times -- 2 sc.
Step 15
Row 7: Ch 1, turn, decrease -- 1 sc.
Step 16
Fasten off.
Step 17
Back Upper. Row 1 (RS): From RS, skip next 12 unworked stitches after Front Upper Row 1, take a brown loop in next unworked stitch, ch 1, sc in same stitch and next 11 stitches; leave remaining stitches unworked -- 12 sc.
Step 18
Rows 2-7: Work same as Rows 2-7 of Front Upper.
Step 19
Fasten off.
Step 20
Top Edge: From RS, take a brown loop in first stitch of Front Upper Row 1, work 7 sc evenly along edge of Front Upper to peak, work 3 sc at peak, work 7 sc evenly down next edge of Front Upper, ending in last stitch of Front Upper Row 1.
Step 21
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Repeat the top edge along the top of the Back Upper.
Step 22
Using a crochet hook and brown, following the photo as a guide, draw the door and windows with surface crochet.
Step 23
Using a blunt needle and brown, following the photo as a guide, embroider 3 lazy daisy flowers above the door and 2 below the windows.
Step 24
Embroider a French knot, in a single wrap, in the center of each flower.
Step 25
Roof. Row 1 (RS): From RS, take a brown loop in the first unworked stitch after Front Upper Row 1, ch 1, sc in same stitch and next 11 stitches -- 12 stitches.
Step 26
Rows 2-7: Ch 1, turn, sc in each stitch across.
Step 27
Fasten off.
Step 28
Hanging Loop. With brown, leaving a long tail at start, ch 33 tightly.
Step 29
Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew the loop to the roof.
Step 30
Finishing. Using the photo as a guide and yarn tails still attached to pieces when possible, assemble the Gingerbread House as follows: cut cardboard pieces per diagram and insert inside house for structure.
Step 31
Stuff piece and continue stuffing until complete.
Step 32
With brown, sew sides of roof to Upper Side Edges.
Step 33
Sew last row of roof to unworked sts of Upper Base edge. With yarn tail, sew loop to roof. Weave in ends.
