Notes: Keep in mind that the pieces will be worked in parts and then assembled.

Decrease (sc2tog): Insert hook in the next stitch and pull up a loop. Repeat once more in the next stitch, then yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook - 1 stitch decreased.

Surface crochet: Insert hook in desired stitch, place a loop of yarn on hook; pull loop to top of piece; insert hook in next desired stitch; yarn over and pull a loop through piece and loop on hook; repeat until surface crochet is complete.
