Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Step 1

PLACEMAT CENTER: With Cherry yarn, start with a magic ring. Crochet 3 chains (equals first dc) and 11 dc inside the ring for a total of 12 stitches. Close with a slip stitch.

Step 2

Step 2

RADIAL STRUCTURE: In round 2, ch 5 (3 ch for dc + 2 ch for space). Repeat [1 dc, 2 ch] in each stitch. In round 3, fill the spaces with 35 dc to solidify the base.

Step 3

Step 3

MAIN BODY: Continue crocheting following the circular diagram in Cherry until reaching the desired diameter. Keep constant tension so the placemat lies perfectly flat on the table.

Step 4

Step 4

BUTTERFLY BODY: With Green yarn, chain 9. Work back from the 2nd chain with 8 sc. Leave 1 cm strands at both ends to simulate the insect's antennae.

Step 5

Step 5

UPPER WINGS: Join Yellow Candy yarn at the 5th stitch of the green body. Crochet groups of ch 5 and dc in the same stitch to create the top wings. Repeat symmetrically.

Step 6

Step 6

LOWER WINGS: Complete the butterfly by joining yarn at the base and crocheting the bottom wings (smaller). You must make a total of 14 butterflies (7 for each of the 2 placemats).

Step 7

Step 7

PEARL APPLICATION: Use liquid silicone glue to fix 3 yellow pearls on the central axis (green body) of each butterfly. This gives a 3D shine and a luxury finish.

Step 8

Step 8

FINAL ASSEMBLY: Distribute 7 butterflies evenly over the edge of the burgundy placemat. Glue or sew them with invisible stitches following the assembly diagram. Your table will look spectacular.
