Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
Abbreviations and Color: CC (Contrasting Color, usually light or solid), MC (Main Color, usually dark or gradient), cr-dc (Crossed double crochet: skip 1 st, 1 dc in next, 1 dc in skipped st), sc (single crochet), dc (double crochet), ch (chain).

Step 2
Tips: Keep both colors attached throughout the project. When changing color, work to the last yarn over of the last stitch of the row and complete the stitch with the new color.

Step 3
Starting the Blanket: The wave pattern requires a multiple of 20 sts + 1. With the Contrasting Color (CC), make 121 chains.

Step 4
Row 1: With CC, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end, turn.

Step 5
Row 2: With CC, ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Step 6
Row 3: With the Main Color (MC), ch 3 (counts as a dc), then 2 cr-dc, *sc in next 10 sts, 5 cr-dc; repeat from * to last 15 sts, sc in next 10 sts, 2 cr-dc, 1 dc in last st, turn.

Step 7
Row 4: Repeat Row 3.

Step 8
Rows 5-6: With CC, ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Step 9
Row 7: With MC, ch 1, sc in first 5 sts, *5 cr-dc, sc in next 10 sc; repeat from * to last 15 sts, 5 cr-dc, sc in last 5 sts, turn.

Step 10
Row 8: Repeat Row 7.

Step 11
Rows 9-10: With CC, ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Step 12
Blanket Body: Repeat rows 3 through 10 to continue the wave design until the piece measures approx. 102 cm, ending with a row 6 or 10. Fasten off.

Step 13
Side Border: Join CC to one of the long sides. Row 1: sc evenly along the edge (approx 7 sc per 8 rows of the body). Row 2: ch 1, sc in each sc along the border. Fasten off. Repeat on the other side.

Step 14
Finishing: Weave in ends with a tapestry needle and lightly block the blanket to shape.
