Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
PANEL PREPARATION: The blanket is divided into 6 vertical panels. You must alternate between the 'Wide Stripe Pattern' (8-row color blocks) and the 'Narrow Stripe Pattern' (2-row color blocks). Each panel starts with a 42-chain base.

Step 2
V-STITCH (ROW 1): In the 4th ch from hook, work 2 dc. *Skip 2 ch, 2 dc in next ch. Repeat from * until 2 ch remain. Skip 1 ch and finish with 1 dc in the last. You will have a total of 28 dc.

Step 3
V-STITCH (ROW 2): Ch 2. Skip the first dc and work 2 dc in the space between the two double crochets of the previous row. Repeat this process in each 'gap' of the row. Finish with 1 dc on top of the previous turning chain.

Step 4
COLOR MANAGEMENT: For wide stripes, cut the yarn at each change for clean edges. For narrow stripes, do not cut the yarn; carry it loosely along the side of the work, as we will cover it when joining the panels.

Step 5
CREATING THE 6 PANELS: Follow the color scheme (B-A, A-C, A-D, E-A, F-A, A-G) until completing 120 rows per panel. Ensure you maintain consistent tension so all panels measure the same upon completion.

Step 6
INVISIBLE JOINING: With Color A and a yarn needle, join the panels using the mattress stitch. When joining panels II, IV, and VI, make sure to 'wrap' the carried yarn with your stitches to hide it.

Step 7
PERIMETER EDGES: Join Color A in a corner and work a round of single crochet around the entire blanket (3 sc in each corner). Then, add two extra rows of sc only on the top and bottom edges.

Step 8
FINAL TOUCH - FRINGE: Cut 25.5 cm strands of Color A. Take groups of 3 strands, fold them, and knot them every two stitches on the top and bottom edges. Trim to make them even. Your blanket is ready for the picnic!
