Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Materials: Medium weight yarn in colors A (Soft White), B (Black), and C (Amethyst). 5 mm crochet hook and tapestry needle.
Step 2
Abbreviations: sc (single crochet), dc (double crochet), sl st (slip stitch), ch (chain), tr (treble crochet), sp (space), RS (right side), WS (wrong side).
Step 3
General Instructions: The beginning ch 3 counts as 1 dc. Make 28 Motif A and 28 Motif B.
Step 4
Motif A - Rnd 1 & Rnd 2: With color A, ch 5 and join with sl st to form a ring. Rnd 1: ch 3, 15 dc in ring, join (16 dc). Rnd 2: ch 3, 4 dc in same st. *1 dc in next 3 dc, 5 dc in next dc*, rep 3 times. 1 dc in last 3 dc. Join with sl st and cut A.
Step 5
Motif A - Rnd 3: Join color B to center dc of a corner group. Ch 3, 4 dc in same st. *1 dc in each dc to center dc of next corner, 5 dc in that st*. Rep 2 times. 1 dc in each st to end. Join and cut B.
Step 6
Motif A - Rnds 4 to 6: Rnd 4: With color A, rep Rnd 3. Rnd 5: With color B, rep Rnd 3. Rnd 6: Join color A at corner. Ch 3, (1 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc) in same st. *1 dc in each st to next corner, (2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc) in center st*. Rep and join. Fasten off.
Step 7
Motif B: Make 28 motifs working exactly as Motif A, but substituting color B for A and A for B to reverse the color placement.
Step 8
Finishing (Joining): Join motifs to form 8 strips, then join the strips together. Sew on the WS using an invisible whipstitch, working only in the back loops of the stitches.
Step 9
Border - Rnd 1: With RS facing, join color C to the top right tr corner of a motif. Ch 1, 3 sc in same sp. *1 sc in each st to next corner tr, 3 sc in tr*. Repeat around all 4 sides, join with sl st.
Step 10
Border - Rnd 2: Ch 3, 4 dc in same sp. *1 dc in each sc to the center sc of the corner group, 5 dc in that sc*. Repeat along the sides, 1 dc in each sc to end. Join with sl st, fasten off.
