Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

MATERIALS: 3.5 mm hook, Chrome and Canary yarns, 50x50 insert. Technique: Tapestry crochet (carry unused color inside).

Step 2

MOTIF (R1-R2): With Canary, make MR. Join Chrome and carry it. R1: ch 2, 7 hdc in MR. R2: (Chrome) 1 hdc, [2 hdc in same st] x6. (Total: 14 sts).

Step 3

MOTIF (R3): (Canary) [2 hdc in same st] x7, then [1 hdc, 2 hdc in same st] x2.

Step 4

MOTIF (R4): (Chrome) [2 hdc in same st, 1 hdc] x2, repeat pattern x10 more, end with 5 sc.

Step 5

MOTIF (R5): (Canary) Skip 1 base st: [1 sc tog, ch 3] x17. Close with sc in first stitch.

Step 6

MOTIF (R6 & Cont.): (Chrome) In ch-3 sp: ch 3, 2 sc. (Canary) 1 sc tog. (Chrome) 3 sc. Repeat x16 more rounds. End with Canary 1 dc, close.

Step 7

JOIN MOTIFS: Make 4 identical motifs. Hand sew the last round of each together to form the square front.

Step 8

FRONT BORDER: Join Chrome in corner. R1: (Corner: ch 3, 2 sc, ch 2, 3 sc). Sides: 1 sc per st. At motif joins: 2 sc in corners and 2 sc in join. Repeat and close.

Step 9

BACK (Upper): Join Chrome. R1: [ch 5, skip 2 sts, 1 sc. ch 2, skip 2 sts, 1 sc] to end. R2-7: Repeat R1. Fasten off.

Step 10

BACK (Lower): Join Chrome at bottom. R1: Same chain sequence as upper part. R2-27: Repeat sequence. Fasten off.

Step 11

FINISH (Join): Overlap back pieces (5 rows). Join Front and Back with [3 sc in corners, 1 sc in each st] around. Close.

Step 12

CORDS: Crochet 2 cords of 60 cm with Chrome. Place them in the back opening leaving 12 squares apart. Tie bows.

Step 13

READY!: Insert the cushion filling and adjust the cover. Your solar pillow is finished!
