Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

START (R1): Ch 2. Work 6 sc in the 2nd ch. Place marker in the last st and move it each round. (6 sc).

Step 3
INITIAL INCREASES (R2-R5): Crochet the flat base. R2 (12 sc). R3 (18 sc). R4 (24 sc). R5 (30 sc).

Step 4
INTERMEDIATE INCREASES (R6-R9): Continue increases. R6 (36 sc). R7 (42 sc). R8 (48 sc). R9 (54 sc).

Step 5
LARGE INCREASES (R10-R12): Follow the pattern for the maximum diameter. R10 (60 sc). R11 (66 sc). R12 (72 sc).

Step 6
FINAL INCREASES (R13-R16): Finish the crown. R13 (78 sc). R14 (84 sc). R15 (90 sc). R16 (96 sc).

Step 7
BERET BODY (R17-R20): Work 4 rounds of 1 sc in each stitch (96 sc). This creates the slack and slouch of the beret.

Step 8
DECREASE 1 (R21-R22): Start closing the brim. R21 (6 sc dec, 90 sc). R22 ([sc dec, 13 sc] rep, 84 sc).

Step 9
DECREASE 2 (R23-R24): Second closing stage. R23 (78 sc). R24 (72 sc).

Step 10
DECREASE 3 (R25-R26): Final decreases before the band. R25 (66 sc). R26 ([sc dec, 9 sc] rep, 60 sc).

Step 11
BRIM BAND (R27-R28): Crochet the elastic band using ONLY the back loop. 1 sc in each st. (60 sc).

Step 12
FINISHING (R29): Finish the edge with 1 sl st in each st (back loop). Cut, secure, and weave in ends.
