Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

BASE: With Color A (Denim), chain 80. The length of this chain determines the height of the hat (28 cm).

Step 2

ROW 1: 1 V-stitch (2 dc) in 4th ch from hook. [Sk 1 ch, 1 V-stitch in next ch]. Rep until last 2 ch. Sk 1 ch, 1 dc in last. (38 V-sts and 1 dc on each end).

Step 3

ROW 2 (Color Change): Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn. 1 V-stitch in each space between dc of previous V-st. 1 dc in top of starting ch-3. Change to Color B (Paprika).

Step 4

ROWS 3-29 (Stripes): Repeat Row 2, alternating 2 rows with B and 2 rows with A. Finish with 1 row of A. (8 stripes of A, 7 of B).

Step 5

ROW 30 (Top Edge): With A, ch 3, turn. Work 1 dc in each V-st space and 1 dc in the last dc. (40 dc).

Step 6

GATHERING & SEAM: Cut yarn (long tail). Thread it through the 40 dc of the last row, pull to gather, and knot. Sew the side edges of the rectangle together to close the hat.

Step 7

POM-POM: Using 1 strand of A and 1 strand of B together, create a pom-pom. Securely knot it to the gathered top of the hat.
