Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Materials and Sizing: We will use chunky velvet t-shirt yarn in Hunter Green (Color A - 2 skeins) and Teal (Color B - 1 skein). 13 mm hook. Finished size: 12" x 19" (30.5 x 48.5 cm).

Step 2

Base - Rows 1 to 5: With Color A, ch 13. Row 1 (RS): sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across [12 sc]. Rows 2-5: ch 1, turn, working in front loops only (FLO), sc in each stitch across. Do not cut yarn.

Step 3

Base Border: Crochet around the entire piece. Work 6 sc evenly spaced along the short edge of the Base, 12 sc along the adjacent long edge, 6 sc along the next short edge. Working in front loops only, sc in the remaining 12 sc. Join with sl st to first sc [36 sc]. Cut yarn.

Step 4

Sides and Finishing: Row 1: Join Color B with sl st in last stitch of the border. ch 2, working in front loops only (FLO), dc in each st across 3 edges of the Base. End with ch 2, join with sl st to next stitch. Leave remaining stitches unworked for the front opening. Cut yarn. Weave in and secure yarn ends by stitching them down using a regular sewing needle and thread for durability.
