Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Materials and Gauge: We will use 4 skeins of Bungee Mini yarn in petrol blue (07) and a 10 mm crochet hook. Gauge: 9 sc x 8 rows = 10x10 cm. Finished measurements: Width 35 cm, Length 40 cm, and Entrance height 12 cm. Work stitches tightly to ensure a sturdy structure.
Step 2
Base: Crochet in the round. Rnd 1: In a MR, ch 2 (counts as dc), 11 dc. Join with sl st [12]. Rnd 2: ch 2, inc in each st. Join [24]. Rnd 3: ch 2, dc in same st, *(1 dc, inc) around. Join [36]. Rnd 4: ch 2, dc in same st, *(2 dc, inc) around. Join [48]. Rnd 5: ch 2, dc in same st, *(3 dc, inc) around. Join [60]. Rnd 6: ch 2, dc in same st, *(4 dc, inc) around. Join [72].
Step 3
Sides and Entrance Opening: Rnds 7 to 11: ch 1, sc around without joining. Rnd 12 (opening): ch 1, turn, sc until 16 st before the end of the round, ch 1, turn. Rnds 13 to 18: sc to end, ch 1, turn. Rnd 19: sc to opening, ch 16, join with sl st. Rnd 20: ch 1, sc around (resume continuous spiral rounds).
Step 4
Top Decreases and Center Strap: Rnd 21: *(4 sc, dec) around. Rnd 22: sc around. Rnd 23: *(2 sc, dec) around. Join with sl st. Center Strap: Work behind the entrance. Row 1-6: ch 1, turn, work 8 sc from inside. Sew this strap on the wrong side with sl st. You will have 13 free st on each side for the ears (19 st per ear).
Step 5
Ears and Edging: Join yarn at side of ear from the outside. Rnds 1-2: sc around. Rnd 3: *(1 sc, dec) around. Rnds 4-5: sc around. Rnd 6: dec around. Fasten off. Repeat for the second ear on the opposite side. Edging: Work 2 rounds of sl st around the entrance opening to reinforce the edge. Fasten off and weave in ends.
