Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
Materials and Gauge: We will use 700 g of medium weight cotton or acrylic yarn in natural color, a 5.0 mm crochet hook, measuring tape, and scissors. Gauge: 16 sts x 3 rows = 10 cm (4 inches) in pattern stitch.

Step 2
Base - Row 1: Ch 137. Row 1: Starting in the 10th ch from the hook, work 3 sl st. Turn work to the wrong side and work 8 dc over the ch-loop. Turn to the right side, ch 1, work 8 sc, and 5 sl st over the base chains. Repeat this process until the end of the row.

Step 3
Base - Rows 2 to 17: Start with ch 9. Starting in the 3rd sc of the base arch, work 3 sl st. Turn to the wrong side, work 8 dc over the ch. Turn to the right side, ch 1, work 7 sc, 5 sc over the base arch, and ch 5. Repeat to the end. Work back and forth in this pattern from row 2 to 17.

Step 4
Edging and Border: Continue with the same yarn. Rnd 1: Work (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in the corner stitch. Work 1 sc in each stitch along the sides of the rug. Repeat this around the entire outer border of the piece. Join with sl st and fasten off.

Step 5
Decorative Fringe: Cut strands of yarn 34 cm long (about 11 strands per tassel). Fold them in half and attach them using a lark's head knot to the ch-spaces on the corners and side edges of the piece. Repeat in each ch-space to complete the fringe decoration.
