Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Step 1

WEAVING THE CORDS: With the green color (B), make 20 cords of 40 chains each. Leave long tails at both ends when fastening off; these will serve to attach the cherries later.

Step 2

Step 2

CHERRY START: With the red color (A), chain 2. Work 6 single crochet (sc) into the second chain from the hook. Do not join the round; we will work in a spiral to avoid visible seams.

Step 3

Step 3

INCREASES AND BODY: In round 2, work 2 sc in each stitch (12 sc). Then, from rounds 3 to 5, work one single crochet in each stitch. This will form the small 'cup' of the cherry.

Step 4

Step 4

HOMEMADE STUFFING: A useful trick is to wrap the red yarn around two fingers about 5 times and tuck it into the cherry. This gives it body without needing external synthetic stuffing.

Step 5

Step 5

CHERRY CLOSURE: In round 6, work 6 decreases (sc2tog). Cut the yarn leaving a long tail, thread it through the remaining stitches with a yarn needle, and pull tight to close.

Step 6

Step 6

CLUSTER ASSEMBLY: Sew one cherry to each end of the green cord using the long tails we left. Make sure they are very secure so they don't come loose with movement.

Step 7

Step 7

THE BOW (LEAVES): Tie the green cord into a bow. Adjust the loops to measure about 3 cm (simulating leaves) and the stems about 3.5 cm. Repeat this until you have your 20 clusters.

Step 8

Step 8

PLACEMENT ON THE GARMENT: Distribute the clusters randomly over the coat with pins. Once satisfied with the position, sew the cord knot and the cherries to the fabric.
