Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Materials & Sizes: Yarn: Chunky Main color & Chunky Contrast (edges). Hooks: 6.5mm & 8mm. 5 buttons (2.5cm). Sizes: XS to 5XL. Gauge (8mm): 9 hdc x 7 rows = 10cm. Stitches used: hdc, front/back post dc, hdc2tog (decrease by working 2 hdc together).
Step 2
Pockets (Make 2): Edge (6.5mm, Contrast): Ch 16. Base row: hdc. R1: Ch 3, alternate fpdc and bpdc. R2: alternate bpdc and fpdc. R3-4: Repeat R1-2. Body (8mm, Main): R1: Ch 2, hdc. Work hdc until piece measures 16.5 cm.
Step 3
Front Panels (Make 2): Ribbing (6.5mm, Contrast): Ch 20-40. Base hdc + 4 rows of post sts like pockets. Main Panel (8mm, Main): R1: Ch 2, hdc. Repeat until 43-53 cm. Neckline Shaping: Decrease using hdc2tog as instructed.
Step 4
Back Panel: Ribbing (6.5mm, Contrast): Ch 42-82. 4 rows post sts. Main Panel (8mm, Main): Work hdc until 3 rows shorter than Front length. Neckline: Work 3 straight rows on each side, skipping the center stitches.
Step 5
Sleeves (Make 2): Cuff (6.5mm, Contrast): Ch 25-41. 4 rows post sts. Sleeve Body (8mm, Main): R1-3 straight hdc. Alternate Inc Row (2 inc) with straight sequences until required stitches and length is reached. Fasten off.
Step 6
Assembly: Block pieces to final measurements. Sew shoulders using mattress stitch. Center each sleeve at the shoulder seam and sew to the armhole. Sew side seams and sleeve underarm seams.
Step 7
Front Band & Buttonholes (Contrast): R1: hdc evenly around neck and fronts. R2: hdc. R3 (buttonholes): hdc, then ch 2 (skip 2 sts) 5 times for buttonholes. R4: hdc in each st and ch-2 sp. R5: hdc across. Fasten off.
Step 8
Final Details: Sew pockets onto front panels, 10 cm from the front edge and 10 cm from the bottom edge. Sew 5 buttons on the left front band aligned with the buttonholes. Weave in all ends.
