Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
LOWER EDGE (BACK): With main color and 5 mm hook, chain according to size (65 to 123 sts). Work in post stitch double crochet ribbing until reaching 7.6 cm in height.

Step 2
BODY - ARGYLE CHART: Switch to 5.5 mm hook. Follow the clover chart using tapestry technique (carrying the contrast yarn inside). Crochet until reaching 32-37 cm before starting the armholes.

Step 3
ARMHOLE SHAPING (BACK): Decrease stitches at the ends using slip stitches and then single decreases (sc2tog) to reduce width according to size. Continue straight until armhole measures 20-30 cm.

Step 4
FRONT: Work same as back until armhole measures between 7 and 17 cm (depending on size). Here we will divide the work to create the vest's characteristic 'V' neckline.

Step 5
FRONT NECKLINE: Work each side separately. Decrease one stitch at the neck edge every row and then every two rows, until reaching the indicated shoulder stitches (6 to 11 sts). Repeat symmetrically.

Step 6
NECKLINE BORDER: Sew one shoulder. Join yarn and work double crochets around the entire neck. In subsequent ribbing rows, decrease 3 stitches together at the center of the 'V' to maintain shape.

Step 7
ARMHOLE BORDERS: After closing the second shoulder, work ribbing borders (3.2 cm) around each arm opening. This provides structure and prevents stretching with wear.

Step 8
ASSEMBLY AND BLOCKING: Sew the sides using mattress stitch. Weave in ends and block the garment (moisten and shape) so the clover motifs are properly defined. Vest finished!
