Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Step 1

Materials and Gauge: To make this easy-level crossbody bag, we will use flat cotton ribbon yarn worked holding two strands together. We will need a 7.0 mm crochet hook to maintain a gauge of 8 hdc x 5 rows = 10 cm (4").

Step 2

Side and Base Band: R1: Holding 2 strands, work 2 sc around the first D-ring, ch 1, turn. [2 sc] R2-19: ch 1, 2 hdc, turn. Repeat to complete 19 rounds of hdc. R20: work 2 sc around the second D-ring. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Step 3

Step 3

Side Panels - Rounds 1 and 2: Make 2. R1: ch 10. hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 7 ch, 4 hdc in last ch. On opposite side: hdc in next 7 ch, 3 hdc in first ch. Join with sl st. [22 hdc] R2: ch 1, inc, hdc in next 7 sts, (inc) x4, hdc in next 7 sts, (inc) x3. Join with sl st. [30 hdc]

Step 4

Step 5

Step 5

Side Panels - Round 5 (Upper Edge): R5 (WS): ch 1, work 23 hdc back loop only (hdc-blo) along half of the panel to form the zipper flap. Fasten off and weave in all loose ends. [23 hdc-blo]

Step 6

Step 6

Bag Assembly: Cut a 45 cm (18") piece of ribbon yarn. Align the bag base (the hdc side band with D-rings) with one of the side panels. Sew them together using whip stitch, joining only the front loops of the side panel. Repeat for the other panel.

Step 7

Step 7

Zipper Installation: Open the 35 cm zipper completely. Pin it along the upper opening of the main panels (the 23 hdc-blo edges). Using grey sewing thread and a sewing needle, make small, neat, and firm stitches to secure the zipper to the fabric.

Step 8

Step 8

Finishing and Strap: Once the zipper is secure, take the adjustable cotton strap (80-125 cm long) in beige/dark grey and clip it to the D-rings at the ends of the side band. Weave in and trim all remaining yarn tails.
