Step 1
START AND CENTER: Create a magic ring and crochet 12 double crochet (dc) inside. Join with a slip stitch. This circular base will be the core from which all petals grow.
Step 2
MOTIF BASE: In round 2, work a sequence of [1 single crochet, 2 chains, 1 single crochet in the next stitch]. You will end up with 12 chain spaces that will serve as anchors for the next round.
Step 3
PETAL FORMATION: In each 2-chain space from the previous round, work [1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc]. Separate each group with 1 chain. This will create the structure of 12 open petals.
Step 4
INTERIOR RELIEF: To add texture, work 3 front post double crochets over each petal. Ch 2 between each group. You will see how the motif begins to stand out from the background.
Step 5
DECORATIVE TEXTURE (CLUSTER): In the 2-chain spaces, work a special fan: [1 sc, 1 dc, 3 dc closed together (cluster), 1 dc, 1 sc]. This creates a voluminous and elegant central stitch.
Step 6
MOTIF EXPANSION: On each fan from the previous round, work a group of 7 double crochets. Between each group, make a single crochet to settle the fabric and keep it flat.
Step 7
PICOT EDGE: For the final finish, work single crochets with picots (1 sc, 3 ch, 1 sc in the same spot) all around. Separate the picots with 2 chains for a delicate and airy edge.
Step 8
BLOCKING AND FINISHING: Once finished, it's recommended to dampen and block the piece with pins on a flat surface so the heart design and reliefs look their best.
