Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

HEART MOTIF (Make 30) - START: With lilac color, ch 4. Join with a slip stitch (sl st) in the first ch to form a ring.

Step 2

ROUND 1 (Lilac): Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout). Work 2 dc in the ring, followed by ch 2.

Step 3

ROUND 1 - CONTINUED: Work (3 dc in the ring, ch 2) 3 times total. Join with a sl st in the top of the beg ch-3 and turn.

Step 4

ROUND 2 (Lilac): Ch 3, work 2 dc in the ch-2 space (sp), ch 2, and 3 dc in the same ch-2 sp. Ch 1.

Step 5

ROUND 2 - CONTINUED: Work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 1) in the next ch-2 sp. Repeat this sequence 3 more times. Join with a sl st in the top of the beg ch-3.

Step 6

ROUND 3 (Lilac): Work 1 single crochet (sc) in the next 2 sts. In the ch-2 sp, work (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc). Work 1 sc in each st until the next ch-2 sp.

ROUND 3 - HEART SHAPING: In the next ch-1 sp, work 12 treble crochet (tr). Work a sl st in the central ch-2 sp. In the next ch-1 sp, work another 12 tr.

ROUND 3 - LILAC FINISHING: Work 1 sc in the next ch-2 sp and 1 sc in each remaining st. Join with a sl st to the beg sc. Fasten off lilac yarn (heart finished).

ROUND 5 - WHITE FINISHING: Work (1 dc, 2 hdc) in the next sp, 1 hdc in the ch-2 sp at the heart top, and (2 hdc, 1 dc) in the next sp. Complete the square by repeating corners and sides. Join with a sl st to beg ch-1.

ROUND 6 (White): Ch 3, 2 dc in same st. *(3 dc, ch 1) in next ch sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 1) in corner sp.

BLOCKING: Block all squares so they measure exactly 10 inches each, ensuring the edges are straight.

JOINING: Join the squares by sewing them with the yarn needle. You must form a grid of 5 squares wide and 6 squares long.

FINISHING: Once all motifs are joined, use the yarn needle to hide all yarn tails on the wrong side of the blanket.
